French Justice Investigates Death Threats Against Israeli Athletes

The French justice opened an investigation for the death threats received by three athletes of the Israeli team of the Olympic Games, the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Paris said on Sunday.

The investigation into the emails sent to these three athletes is led by the anti-hate unit online, said the Paris Prosecutor’s Office, and the police of the Brigade for the Suppression of Crimes against Persons has been assigned.
On Thursday, the Israeli minister of Exteriors, Israël Katz, had warned his French counterpart, Stéphane Séjourné, about the risk of “terrorist attacks” During the Games, Israeli athletes or tourists were attacked by “Iranian terrorist groups and other terrorist organizations.”

The Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (COJO) has filed a complaint about anti-Semitic gestures and the display of a banner with the message “Genocide Olympics” in English.
Before the meeting, the Israeli anthem was whistled by a portion of the audience as some attendees deployed Palestinian flags.
